My Mom told me this is her favorite picture of herself because she was at work with her friends and having fun.
That's so sweet yes I remember Mickey she was a nice lady she would always come over when I would go see my friend Tracy which was also her niece always funny and yes her and carol always Luved singing and writing songs lol :). She will be missed!
My Mom, Maxine Young. She was called Mickey by those who loved her. She enjoyed every minute of everyone she knew. She was a hard worker, the backbone of our family. When my dad was out of work (self-employed), she worked as a waitress at Jamilâ??s Steakhouse. She was the first woman Mr. Jamil hired to wait tables, and the staff and patrons loved her! She worked for Jamilâ??s Steakhouse until Mr. Jamil passed away. She then found a job working as a dietary technician in the Oklahoma Osteopath Hospital. She liked that it was close enough to walk to work if she needed to and she would be close by if our family needed anything. She was an advocate of being independent. One of my favorite quotes from Mom is â??If you need a helping hand, look at the end of your right arm. If you need another, look at the end of your left armâ?. Then there is â??No one can love you like your Mother. When you feel down, wrap one arm around you, then the other and give yourself a big ole hug from me!â? Somewhat of a pessimist, she had the best sense of humor! She could make me laugh no matter what the situation. I mean really laugh from deep in the belly. I remember being in tears, near hysteria and calling her. She gave me her point of view and I laughed so hard tears were rolling down my cheek and my tummy cramped. We both laughed and laughed. She was an Artist who created masterpieces with food. She and her best friend True had small catering business. One year, they were hired by a local Law Firm to cater the Christmas party. My niece and I served the delicacies. She sculpted a two foot tall Christmas tree out of cream cheese and tinted it green food coloring. She made presents for the tree out of vegetables; carved radishes in a box shaped and used shavings from carrots as bows on top! The Attorneys and their guests said it was too beautiful to eat, so I grabbed a chip and took the first bite! She was a writer who authored many beautiful songs. I remember watching with delight as she and her sister Carol (my favorite Aunt) would sit for hours writing songs and singing them. She loved her family above everything. I learned, as a child, if I snuck to the store and bought chips for myself, I better eat them before I got home or I would have to share with everyone. She would say â??If we have one pea, and 10 people, we will split it 10 ways!â? This memory makes me smile. She believed in taking pride in your appearance. One thing she would say to me is â??Your makeup is not finished until you put on lipstickâ?, I suppose this is why I now wear lip-gloss to bed.Last year, we began talking on the phone almost every day when I confessed to her that I had always thought she loved others in the family more than me. She said â??Tammy, I knew you were strong.â? She was my best friend, my strongest advocate, my favorite person in the world to bicker with. I love you Mommy!
