Matthew Scott Owen's Obituary
Ever an exceptionally kind man, Matthew Scott Owen was born on April 7, 1993 in Lander, Wyoming to Stephen and Melissa Owen. Shortly after his birth, his family relocated to the Tulsa area. His older brother, Michael, protected and supported his little brother in many ways throughout his life. Matthew passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2023.
He was always a deep respecter and lover of babies and young children (especially his niece) and his cat, Bynx, a long-time companion. He also enjoyed a variety of types of movies, music, podcasts, and television programs.
He was an avid soccer player contributing greatly to the success of both recreational and club teams throughout his youth. Throughout his soccer career with Broken Arrow Hurricane and Tulsa Soccer Club he fashioned Number 7 proudly. He also enjoyed fishing with his family, playing video games with friends, and cooking delicious meals for others.
A talented electrician, he worked on many commercial and residential projects often being asked to mentor others with less experience. His loving late grandmother, Brenda David, greatly influenced Matthew in many ways including his choice of careers. She was a powerful example to him, along with his late great Grandpa Grove (Warren) and his great Grandpa Ralph, of the benefits of hard work. One of the projects in which he took special pride was his intricate electrical work on Tulsa’s historical Will Rogers High School.
In addition to his parents, brother, and sister-in-law, Pia Owen, he is survived by his niece, Penelope Sutton Owen, grandparents, Robert and Pat David of Kansas City, MO; R. Edward and Ann Owen of Tulsa; and Marsha Owen of Tulsa. His other survivors include, in part, aunts and uncles, Nicole and Buddy Pennington of Kansas City, Michelle and Michael Pearse, of Macomb, Michigan; Curt and Tracy Hocking of Kansas City, and Melanie Owen of Little Rock, Arkansas, and numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles, and friends.
