Max Bunnell's Obituary
Maxwell G (Max) Bunnell 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 28,2022. Max was
born in Cincinnati, AR on November 21, 1928, to Granger and Lena (Gardisser) Bunnell.
Max married Helen Sue (Sue) Thurman of Cincinnati, AR on December 4, 1949. Max
served during the Korean War as a corporal in the Army Signal Corp. He was stationed in Austria
until his discharge.
He worked for Central Airlines in Tulsa, OK. He later worked for American Airlines (Tulsa, OK),
from which he retired. He enjoyed many activities…boating, water skiing (slalom), square dancing,
hunting, and sport shooting with his son. Max and Sue raised a beautiful garden. They loved sharing
their produce with family and friends. Max enjoyed operating his Amateur Radio holding an
extra class license. Max loved music, his favorite being bluegrass. He particularly liked Bill Monroe
and Ernest Tubb. He attended many of the bluegrass festivals. He also held a great love for airplanes,
steam engine trains, and tractors attending many of those shows.
Max and Sue purchased an RV and began traveling. They traveled with friends on many occasions.
Max became interested in bicycle riding. He rode with his daughter, son-in-law, friends, and grandson.
He participated in various organized rides including Oklahoma Freewheel, Hill Country-Kerrville, TX,
Tough One-Eureka Springs, AR and Hotter-N-Hell-Wichita Falls, TX.
Max is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sue, son Stanley Bunnell and wife Ginger, daughter Sandra Spiker
and husband, Tim, grandson Zachary Bunnell, granddaughter Chelsey Bakker and husband Michael,
two great granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.
Max is preceded in death by his father, mother and siblings.
In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to “Folds of Honor” which provides educational scholarships
to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, September 02, 2022 at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
