Maxwell Willard Longacre Jr.'s Obituary
Maxwell Willard Longacre Jr., affectionately known to many as Buster, Buzz, or Buddy, passed away at the age of 80 on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Norman Regional Hospital. Though he passed in Norman, Oklahoma, Maxwell had most recently made his home in Choctaw, Oklahoma. Maxwell was born on November 6, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Maxwell Willard Longacre Sr. and Marguerite Doran Culwell. From an early age, he was known for his friendly nature and the nicknames that followed him throughout his life - "Buster" during childhood, "Buzz," and most fondly, "Buddy," a name many continued to call him well into adulthood.
He was a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a double major in Business Management and Management Information Systems, graduating in 1985. Maxwell dedicated many years of his professional life to public service, proudly serving as a National Service Officer, where he worked tirelessly to help veterans navigate and receive the benefits they earned through their service. Helping others was not just his job - it was his passion.
Outside of work, Maxwell found joy in restoring old cars and trucks. His favorite was his '86 Monte Carlo SS, lovingly painted in his favorite grape color. He also enjoyed playing pool and could often be found competing in tournaments alongside his good friend Chad. These hobbies reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship, competition, and camaraderie.
Maxwell is survived by his former wife, Juvelyn Longacre, who remained a loving and meaningful presence in his life and someone who was deeply important to him. He is also survived by his daughter, Lori Starr, and her husband Kevin Starr; and his son, Jeff Longacre. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Allison Hendrix, Bryce Hendrix, Tatum Starr, Harper Starr, Channing Starr, Beckett Longacre, and Hayley Longacre.
He is further survived by his nephews, Kevin Lechlider and his wife Bobbie, along with their children, and Dean Lechlider and his wife Ellen, along with their children.
Maxwell was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Lechlider, and her husband Charles Lechlider, as well as his parents, Maxwell Sr. and Marguerite.
Maxwell will be remembered as a kindhearted, dedicated man - a loyal friend, and someone who never hesitated to help those in need. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the countless veterans he served with compassion and integrity.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 PM, Friday, January 16, 2026 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
