Melba Maxine Wallis' Obituary
Melba Maxine Wallis went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ at the close of Mothers Day, May 12, 2013. Maxine was born Melba Maxine Odom May 31, 1925 in West Plains, Missouri. She was the daughter of James and Stella Williams Odom. Maxine was sister to Geneva, Chub, Glen and Imogene. Maxine leaves a son Jimmy Ed Manry, daughter Veronica Sue Henderson and her husband Warren, two grandsons Ronald Craig Irons and his wife Kim, two great grandchildren Shelby Spencer Irons, Alexandria Natasha Irons Ewing and her husband Brent, and grandson William Bryan Irons, all of Tulsa and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.Maxine was retired from Grays Jewelers and enjoyed music and dancing with her late husband Jack Wallis and visiting their home in Bella Vista for several years. Maxine's last years were spent living in the country with her faithful dogs Gibber and Sayde. Maxine enjoyed going to church with her grandson Craig and his family and spending Sunday evenings with them.Maxine was a devoted Christian growing up in West Plains where she sang in the church choir and as a soloist. Maxine had an interesting childhood growing up with future stars Dick VanDyke, Porter Wagoner, Lula Grace Johnson (Jan Howard), Baseball greats Spec Rhoades and Bill Virden. A couple of her favorite memories as a child were of her pet pig Grunter who would walk her to school and being chased by a band of Gypsies.
