Melinda Kay Wright's Obituary
Melinda Kay Wright, age 59 of Broken Arrow, passed away peacefully after a long fight with dementia on July 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on December 27, 1965, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Edwin and Sue Hamm. After a painful marriage and divorce, Melinda went back to school while raising her two young children—just trying to find her footing. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work, and poured everything she had into her career as a medical social worker, caring for hospice patients and their families for many years. Her work was more than a job—it was a calling. She guided people through the hardest chapters of their lives with empathy, grace, and quiet strength. Life handed her more than her share of lemons, but she made lemonade every time. She found joy in gardening and holding babies, in telling family stories and working puzzles, and in enjoying quiet moments that reminded her of what truly mattered. Her favorite things weren’t extravagant—they were meaningful. Melinda lived by the words of James 1:2–4: “Consider it pure joy… whenever you face trials… because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” And she lived that scripture with unshakable faith, setting a steadfast example for her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Sue Hamm, and nephew, Matthew Hulsey. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jessica Wright, and Jessica’s children, Michael and Millie; her son, Aaron Wright, and his wife, Annie, along with their children, June and Will. She leaves behind these four cherished grandchildren and their parents, as well as family and friends who will forever honor her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and generous heart. She absolutely loved flowers—especially sunflowers—so in her honor, we invite you to bring or send blooms that reflect her light. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 29th, from 4pm-7pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, July 30th, at 12:30 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. She will be laid to rest at the Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
