Melton"Monroe" Martin's Obituary
Melton “Monroe” Martin, 96, left this earthly world on December 1, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born Dec 20, 1925, in Stamford Texas to Elizabeth and William Martin, he is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Winston Martin, his sister Tessica Martin, his half-brother Bill Martin, and his wife of 64 years, Katrina.
A World War II Veteran, Monroe’s service in the Navy brought him to the Pacific Front supplying battleships off the coast of China and Japan. He was appreciative of the U.S. military for helping him obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University. He pursued a lifelong career in petroleum, environmental, and rural water system engineering.
He married Katrina Gilmore on January 19, 1953. They began their life together in Tyler Texas and later moved to Tulsa Oklahoma for the majority of their lives together. Monroe is survived by his three children, Marilyn Martin of Tulsa, Lee Martin of Tulsa, Melissa Martin-Hill of Edmond, and six granddaughters.
A humble and gentle man, Monroe devoted his life to his family, building a happy, safe, and loving home. He created memorable experiences for his family, traveling to beaches, mountains, and everywhere in between. He loved camping and fishing and was happy treating his family and friends to special dinners at favorite restaurants. He was proud of his extensive collection of rocks and clocks and he enjoyed keeping up with Red Raiders and Dallas Cowboy football all his life.
Monroe was a constant and selfless support for Katrina until her death in 2017 and he was an example of unconditional love and generosity for his children in their education, life transitions, and ups and downs of life. He had a positive, endearing impact on everyone who knew him.
The family would like to thank Humanity Hospice for his end-of-life care and Renee Coulter, his personal caregiver, for her loving care and her heart of gold.
Services will be held Thursday, December 8th at 10:00 am at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow.
