Merle "Gene" Hines' Obituary
Merle “Gene” Hines, lovingly known as “Pops,” left this world on December 4, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on September 14, 1934, in Canton, Ohio, to Adam Hines and Frieda Hines, Gene was a devoted husband, father, and spiritual guide.
Gene’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family and his faith. He married the love of his life, Jean Ann (Haynam), on October 30, 1960, in Minerva, Ohio. Together, they shared 63 beautiful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
Gene was a man of strong convictions and unshakeable faith. He studied the Bible extensively and was known for his insightful and thoughtful interpretations of spiritual teachings. His constant mind and loving nature made him a sought-after counselor and advisor, and his advice was always met with grace and humility.
Gene’s educational background included a bachelor’s degree in business commerce from Ohio University, which he pursued with dedication and determination. His professional career was marked by his commitment to excellence and his ability to connect with people on a deep level.
As a father, Gene was selfless and nurturing. He always put the needs of his family before his own and was known for his unwavering support and guidance. His daughter, Debbie (daughter-in-law), often teased him, but it was this very quality that made him such a beloved and respected figure in the lives of those who knew him.
Gene’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created. His kindness, generosity, and love will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Gene is survived by his son Steve Hines and wife Debbie, son Dan Hines and wife Ann, grandchildren Shareen Crosby and husband Rich, Luke Hines and wife Jen, Rebekka Morse and husband Jordan, Josh Hines, Jake Hines and wife Karissa, Megan Hines, great-grandchildren Lane Crosby, Live Crosby, Mikayla Morse.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents and brother Bill Hines.
The Hines family wants to give a special thanks to Lisa Back and all the staff at River Cross Hospice. Also a special thanks to Tiffany Sullivan, Cara Slavens and the whole staff of Legends Assisted Living.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 11:30 AM leading up to service time.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel
