Michael Wayne Martin's Obituary
Michael Wayne Martin, 82, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on his 82nd birthday. He was born on May 24, 1944, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Willard and Alta Lee Martin, the third of their four sons.
Mike met the love of his life, Bennie Sue, when they were teenagers. The high school sweethearts both graduated from Will Rogers High School and were married on June 22, 1963, beginning a loving partnership that spanned nearly 63 years. Together they built a home centered on love, laughter, faithfulness, and unwavering support for their family.
An accountant through and through, Mike was known for his remarkable attention to detail and his reputation as an accounts payable guru. Early in his career, he kept the books for numerous gas stations throughout Tulsa, earning the trust and respect of everyone he worked with. Over the years, he shared his talents and dedication with companies including CE NATCO, The Williams Companies, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He took great pride in his work and was admired for his dependability, integrity, and sharp financial mind.
Outside of work, Mike had a deep love for sports, a passion that naturally carried over to his children. Whether it was baseball, soccer, or football, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer from the sidelines. He especially treasured being involved in youth sports programs and devoted countless hours to coaching his children in baseball and soccer. Through those years of coaching, he taught not only the fundamentals of the game, but also the importance of teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and how to succeed both on and off the field.
After retiring, Mike found great joy in woodworking in his garage workshop. He was always creating handcrafted pieces for his children and grandchildren, gifts that will forever hold special meaning to those who received them. He was also an avid fan of Oklahoma State University athletics and proudly supported the Cowboys every chance he could.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of almost 63 years, Bennie Sue Martin; his three sons, Steve Martin and husband Chance Frazier, Jeff Martin and wife Cynthia Martin, and David Martin; and the daughter gifted to his life, Debbie Kessel and husband Mike Kessel. He also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and his loyal furry companion, Peanut, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Alta Lee Martin, and his three brothers, Richard Martin, Gary Martin, and Kenneth Martin.
Mike will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, trusted friend, and steady presence to all who knew him. His kindness, work ethic, generosity, and commitment to family left a lasting impression that will continue through the many lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
