Michael Pennell's Obituary
Michael Sean Pennell, 71 of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away February 22, 2021 at St. John Hospital in Tulsa. Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend too many. Mike was born October 8, 1949 in Oklahoma City. His parents were the late Colonel Robert Pennell and the late Mary Pratt Pennell. Mike graduated from Lawton High School and attended Cameron College. Mike served as Executive Director of NewNet 66 from 1998 to 2020, providing Internet services and network design for many K-12 schools. He was highly respected and loved by the K-12 tech community. He was never too busy to help and always ready to lend a helping hand. Mike was a proud "army brat" and being the child of a career army officer, Mike lived his early childhood traveling throughout the United States and abroad. His global adventures were cut short by the untimely death of his father in 1961, while stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, at which time his family moved to Lawton, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Pennell, son Chad Pennell and his wife Kerri, grandchildren; Jaedin and Kamryn Pennell of Tulsa, Ok., his sister Robin Edmonds, her spouse Steve Edmonds and niece Lexi Edmonds of Austin, TX. It was while Mike’s family was living in Japan that he first discovered his love of flight and model airplanes. His interest grew over the years and radio controlled aircraft became a passion which he avidly pursued until his death. He was a member of Tulsa Glue Dobbers where he served as President for seven years and was also a member of Academy of Model Aeronautics. Mike loved to fly and would fly from sun up to sun down and cherished his friendship with his fellow flyers.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 17 at the Floral Haven Rose Chapel.
