Michael Schorer's Obituary
Michael Meade Schorer, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Claremore, Oklahoma, on March 26, 2026. Born in Seattle, Washington, on October 1, 1939, Mike lived a life defined by service, hard work, and an unwavering passion for the open sky.
After meeting his wife, Weson Mary Schorer, in Seoul, Korea, the couple married on June 7, 1965. They eventually settled in Redondo Beach, California, where Mike earned a mechanics degree from El Camino College and operated a gas station. His career truly took flight when he joined American Airlines, serving as a dedicated mechanical engineer for 38 years. His work with American Airlines brought him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and he spent the remainder of his life at his home in Claremore—a place he affectionately referred to as “Paradise.” Mike also proudly served his country as a retiree of the Army National Guard.
Flying was Mike’s true north. He was once the youngest person to obtain a pilot’s license, famously receiving his wings before he even had a driver’s license. Whether he was rebuilding a plane from an old fuselage or navigating the clouds, he was most at home in the air. On the ground, Mike found peace in the simple joys of his “Paradise.” He loved being outdoors, meticulously cleaning up his yard on his mower, and he cherished his Saturday morning tradition: breakfast at Braum’s with his best buds.
A devout Catholic, Mike was a 4th Degree Knight at St. Cecilia’s Church. He will be remembered as a man of deep faith, technical brilliance, and a dry wit that brightened the lives of those around him.
Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Weson Mary Schorer, and his parents, Lucas Frederik and Emily Hulse Meade.
He is survived by his brother, Richard Schorer of San Jose, CA; his children: son Michael Jon Schorer and wife Shelly of Half Moon Bay, CA; daughter Kim Schorer and husband Jeremy Rider of Port Angeles, WA; son Fredrick Schorer of Surprise, AZ; and daughter Patricia Rickman and husband Brian of Claremore, OK; his grandchildren, Sophia and Luke Schorer, and Trinity and Lydia Rickman; and his beloved pets, Trixie and Maxie.
