Mickie Sue Layman's Obituary
Mickie Sue Lavman 88 of Tulsa, OK passed away peacefully at home on October 2, 2022.
Mickie was born in Winters, TX on October 14. 1938 to Margaret and Lowell Lewis. Her father died early in her life and she and Margaret moved to Oklahoma for a new start.
Margaret married Jack Cullum and they began their new life. Mickie graduated from Will Rogers High School and went on to earn a degree from Oklahoma State University while participating in many extracurricular activities including varsity cheerleader, Future Teachers of America, Vice President of the Baptist Student Union, and was on the Dean’s Honor Roll. In 1955 she married her high school sweetheart Neil F. Layman and remained happily married until he passed in 2004. Mickie taught English at Edison High School for a few years before starting a family When the family moved to Memphis, TN she became involved in Bible Study Fellowship. After 6 years in Memphis, the family moved back to Tulsa. Since there were no BSF meetings in Tulsa, Mickie was instrumental in starting one up. Today there are 6 classes in the surrounding area. Mickie served as a BSF Teaching Leader and eventually as the Area Advisor. She loved, worked, and served to the end of her life for the love of God and the glory of His Son Jesus Christ.
Mickie was loved, cherished, and will be missed by her survivors: son, Eric Layman and his wife Kristie of Montrose, CO; granddaughter, Kassy Layman Schimkaitis and her husband Jon; great-grandchildren: Eleanor and Neil Schimkaitis of Elizabeth, CO; daughter, Ann Huddleston and her husband Larry of Haskell, OK; grandson, Travis Huddleston and his wife Hannah of Dallas, TX: granddaughter, Haley Collins and her husband Peter; great-granddaughter, Aurora Collins of Guthrie, OK; grandson, Kent Huddleston of Oklahoma City, OK; and a host of nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and numerous cherished friends.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, October 16, 2002, 3-5 p.m. at Floral Haven, 6500 S. 129th East Avenue, Broken Arrow, OK. A memorial service honoring Mickie will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Parkview Baptist Church, 5805 S. Sheridan Road, Tulsa, OK.
The family suggests that contributions be made to Bible Study Fellowship (BSF International, 19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78258 4019) in Mickie’s memory to continue her life's mission.
