Mike Eugene Cox's Obituary
Michael Eugene Cox, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and fearless leader of our crazy but wonderful family, was born on August 19, 1947, in Richmond California, and entered Heaven’s gates on February 5th, 2024 at the age of 76.
Mike and his family moved from California to Oklahoma when he was 7. He attended Lindbergh Elementary School, Bell Jr. High, and graduated from Hale High School in 1965. He attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, OK. where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Art and Business.
Miami is where he met the love of his life Jeanie Belcher. They dated for 3 years and married on April 24, 1970. They were married for 53 wonderful years. Mike worked at Oklahoma Natural Gas Company briefly and then ran a printing press for Seismograph Company. He and John Brewer (a friend from elementary school through college) were business partners owning Allied Electric Company for 47 years. Not only were they business partners, they were fishing partners as well.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Duel and Vada Cox. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanie Cox; 2 children; daughter Jan Sitzman and husband Clint, son Jeff Cox and wife Abbey, 5 grandchildren; Michael, Kami, Izzy, Jovee, and Cainen. 1 great grandson: Jon Allen, along with extended family and many friends.
Mike was a true ‘Man of God’ and a shining light of God’s love. He taught in the Youth Department at Maplewood Baptist Church in Tulsa and at Lynn Lane Baptist for many years. He loved teaching and the youth is where his heart was. He took many many kids to Falls Creek and Children’s Camps and led many souls to Christ. He served as Deacon for many years. He and Jeanie have been Lynn Lane Baptist Church members for over 33 years. He also served with Lay Renewal going to churches and serving God’s people. He loved singing and sang many specials sharing Jesus in song.
His interests - - - well he had many. One huge interest was his love of racing and race cars. His racing began with Micro Midgets in 1971 in Coffeyville, Kansas He was soon racing super modified cars at the Tulsa Fairgrounds which he loved. He raced for several years, loving every minute of it. Jan and Jeff got to the age where they could race Quarter Midget race cars, he decided he’d devote his time and energy to their racing and gave up racing himself. He coached Jeff’s baseball teams, football teams, and was his biggest cheerleader during wrestling season.
He loved serving God, racing, and fishing but was IN LOVE with his family. He cherished Jan and Jeff from the day they were born. He was a huge fan of the grandkids and cheered them on at many football, soccer, and volleyball games and track. They all loved their “Poppi” and he loved them.
Mike will be sorely missed, but we know we’ll see him again when it’s our turn to see Jesus face to face as Mike has done and hear God’s words: “Well done my good and faithful servant”.
