Mildred May Vance's Obituary
Mildred May Fuoss Vance was born May 17, 1937 to Bonnie Marie Hurley and Johann Albert Fuoss in Wayne, Nebraska. She passed away April 15, 2017 just shy of her 80th birthday. She lived an amazing and active life, growing up on a farm northeast of Wayne. She graduated from Wayne Prep High School in 1955, and attended Omaha Baptist Bible Institute where she met and married Jack William Amon July 9, 1956. Four children were born from this union; Ruth Marguerite, Rodney Lee, and twins Daniel Wilson and David Wiliam. She shared her love of reading Bible stories and picture books with her children. During these years she was very active in church, social causes and her children’s lives. After this marriage ended, she met and married John Melvin Vance, April 24, 1969, and had daughter Janet Marie. Throughout her life she had many hobbies and interests. She was a prolific poet, lover of books, queen of taco salad, champion of her chosen political causes, world traveler, avid supporter of the feminist movement and girl power. Also a cultural educator, genuine genealogist, and a master of the documentation of life through photography. She had a great sense of humor, wonder, and an appreciation of intellectual pursuits, and on top of all that she was a snazzy dresser with a love of accessorizing with numerous hats and scarves. Lover of flowers and plants, neighbors and friends, but most of all she loved her family and will be missed terribly. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Rodney Lee, and great-grandson Aidan David. She is survived by her husband John Vance, 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held June 28 at 2:00 PM All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa. Memorial contributions may be made to All Souls Building Fund.
