This might seem like a silly memory, but it is one I have always loved and laughed over. When we were teenagers one of my sisters was getting married. Ray called me the day of, and I used the phone in Mama and Daddy's room as my sisters and I dressed for the wedding. Someone needed my help so I asked Ray to hang on a second.Sometime later, Mama saw the receiver off the hook and said, "Who's on the phone?" We all said we didn't know–I had totally forgotten by then–so Mama picked it up. "Hello?" Ray: "Is Carol there?" (I was Carol Nolen then) "Just a minute." Mama handed the phone to me. "Hello?" Ray: "That was a 45 minute 'second'." After my initial confusion I died laughing. "Oh my gosh! With all the chaos I forgot we were on the phone! Umm… Did you hear what we were talking about?" "Maybe," he said, and I could imagine him grinning on the other end of the line.Poor Ray had endured 45 minutes of girly conversation, teasing, and discussions about wedding night jitters that no guy should have to endure. We laughed a lot over that.Be at peace, Ray. Though I haven't seen you in many years, I hold dear our time as friends. You were someone who left a lasting impression on my life.
