Mora Lee Wigginton's Obituary
Mora Lee Wigginton Mora Lee Wigginton, former resident of Oologah, Ok, died Sunday August 5, 2012, at the age of 92 in Owasso, Ok. She was born July 26, 1920, in Sugar Grove, Arkansas, to Dr. Jonathan and Nellie Mae (Fennell) Dorrough. At the age of six, she moved with her family to Monroe, Oklahoma. Upon graduating from Monroe High School in 1938, she attended Southeastern State College in Durant. Before completing her degree, she began her teaching career at Howe, Ok. While teaching there, one of her students, Phyllis Wigginton, told her brother, M C, he should meet her new teacher. M C took his sister's advice and introduced himself to Mora Lee. They were married July 29, 1944, in Howe, where they settled down. Two years later, their son, Stephen Lee, was born in October, 1946. Mora Lee returned to Southeastern State College to complete the academic requirements for her Education Degree. In 1949, she graduated and received her lifetime teaching certificate. M C's career with power plant operations required the family to transfer to numerous locations throughout Oklahoma, including Still water, Norman, Elk City, Washita, Tulsa and in 1960 to Oologah. There she taught second and third grades until her retirement in 1982. That same year, she received in Oologah Teacher of the Year award. A dedicated educator of 34 years, she missed less than 10 days of school the last 22 years of teaching. After retiring, she and M C traveled in their motor home to many places. Her favorite destinations were Las Vegas, Branson and Tunica. In 2004, they moved into a patio home at the Baptist Retirement Village in Owasso. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved spending time with her family— especially her grandson and great grandchildren. Mora Lee was an excellent cook who took great pride in preparing delicious meals. She enjoyed traveling, shopping for bargains, watching the stock market tickertape, reading her morning paper and visiting. Her needlework was meticulous and beautifully done. Several pieces were framed and displayed in the home. Mora Lee and her friends organized a pitch club in 1961, where she and M C played for years until it disbanded. Throughout her life, Mora Lee remained a faithful member of the Methodist Church. She and MC have been members of Oologah United Methodist Church since 1960. It was her great desire to see the new church built. Unfortunately, her illness prevented her from ever attending church services in the new facility. Surviving members are her husband of sixty-eight years, M C Wigginton of the home, her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Sharon Wigginton, her grandson and his wife, Brian and Nicole Wigginton, great-grandchildren, Brook and Brett, all of Oologah; sister and brother-in-law, Nell and Delbert Pool of Tulsa, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Phyllis and Ron Maggard of Tulsa; many loving nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Oologah United Methodist Church, Oologah. Committal will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow.
