Morris Duane Starr's Obituary
Morris Duane Starr of Eufaula, OK, was born on November 23, 1933, in Okemah, OK, and passed away on May 7, 2024, in Tulsa, OK, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his birth father and mother, Jack Webb and Gladys Mae Baker, as well as his adoptive father, Bert “Jack” Starr, who adopted him at the age of 2.
He attended Tulsa Public Schools and graduated with the Will Rogers High School Class of 1951. He attended Tulsa University. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces, serving his country in the United States Navy. His career path included many jobs, most notably the ownership and management of bowling centers in Oklahoma and Kansas.
Morris was blessed with two devoted life partners. He married Madelyn Kay Perry on May 29, 1955, in Tulsa, OK. They had two sons, Steven Duane of Oklahoma City, OK, and Scott David of Broken Arrow, OK. On April 18, 1998, he married Therese Gelvin. They started and made their home on the lake near Eufaula, OK, where they lived until his death.
Morris’s wit and charm were always tucked in a safe spot ready to use as needed. He was a loving, gracious and appreciative man who was never afraid to show it.
Upon retirement, he devoted his life to his family who meant everything to him. He loved his daughters-in-law like his own boys – Vicki Lynn Starr of Oklahoma City (Steven) and Dawn Alexander Starr of Broken Arrow, OK (Scott). He was consumed with his four grandchildren, Brandon Duane of Eufaula, OK, Steven Blake of Oklahoma City, OK, Madelyn Starr Cheatham of Broken Arrow, OK, and Colton Alexander Starr of Broken Arrow, OK. He was blessed with his first great grandchild, Kasey James Cheatham, in December 2023. He loved each of them individually and unconditionally. As grandchildren grew and married, he unconditionally welcomed their partners - Krystina Luna of Eufaula, OK (Brandon), Chloe Thomas Starr of Yukon, OK (Blake) and Jacob Cheatham of Broken Arrow, OK (Madelyn).
In his early years Morris was involved with Blue T Basketball and football and he loved coaching and mentoring young people. He participated in sports and was active in bowling, softball and golf. He was always ready to camp, boat and fish.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Madelyn, half- sister Phyllis Larrimore, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other special people he included as part of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Therese Starr, his two sons, his grandkids, his half-sister Barbara Chapman of Jenks, OK, and other extended family members.
Morris’s life will be celebrated on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 10AM at Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow, OK, in the main chapel with graveside services immediately following. Lunch will be provided afterwards to all who wish to join at the Floral Haven Family Center.
Viewing will be held Sunday, May 12, 2024, from 3PM to 5PM. All immediate family members will be present.
