Myrna Ruth Whitlock's Obituary
On Wednesday March 18th 2015, Myrna Ruth Whitlock ran into the arms of her Lord & Savior – Jesus Christ. She was 75 yrs old and after a long and productive life of loving, serving and mentoring many – it was time for her to rest at the feet of her Heavenly Daddy.Myrna Ruth Whitlock was born on January 2, 1940 to Richard & J. Virginia Tarkington in Oklahoma City. Her parents taught her and her sister, Virginia Ann (Sissy), their Christian values and began the foundation of who she became.Myrna went to nursing school where she met the love of her life – Boyd O. Whitlock Jr. Shortly after Boyd graduated from Medical school, they moved to Tulsa. There they raised their family of 3 kids – Boyd, Bryan & Brynda.Myrna and Boyd were about to celebrate 55 years of a beautiful marriage. Many happy, some sad, several tough times throughout, but as her family and friends would testify – always committed to each other. Myrna would say that it was a wonderful marriage because Christ was a part of their relationship.She has left many family members and friends missing her and grieving her absence. Myrna will be dearly missed by her doting husband, of 54 years, Dr. Boyd O. Whitlock Jr.; her children: Dr. Boyd Whitlock III and his wife, Karen; Dr. Bryan Whitlock and his wife, Rhonda; and Brynda Hatcher and her husband, Marty; Myrna’s grandchildren: Alyssa, Kylie, Bo, Amber, Adam, Haylee, Ariel, Coco, Emy, Wynter, and Kennedy; and her great-grandchildren: Levi and Leo; and Her sister: Virginia Ann (Sissy) O’Daniell and husband Leonard (her big brother).Myrna is preceded in death by her parents: Richard and J. Virginia (Jensen) Tarkington.The Family would like to celebrate the life she lived. They want everyone to be aware that Myrna was an active: Cub Scouts den mother, Girl Scouts leader, softball coach. She taught a Great Books course for Carnegie Elementary School. She was a nurse at St Johns Hospital and SurgiCare for many years where she helped pioneer the pain management clinic. Myrna was a youth group sponsor at New Haven United Methodist Church, where she also lead the puppet ministry. She was a long term member of her Bible Study group, which she so dearly loved and cherished the time and friendships. Myrna, as many may know, was also a “Diamond Level HSN shopper”!Her children and grandchildren would like you to know she was a true Proverbs 31 woman and will remember her as: Loving Comforting Passionate Beautiful ‘Stubborn’ Inspirational A Mentor ‘Ornery’ A Christ follower Jokester Joyful Godly ‘Someone who I strive to be when I grow up’ – Alyssa ‘When I was little I wanted to be – an Ice Cream Lady, a Nurse or a Movie/Super Star?’ – and my mommy encompassed all of them to me! – BryndaThe family invites you to join them in A celebration of life memorial service which will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 23, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, 1115 S.
