Nancy McFarlin's Obituary
Nancy Lou (Crain) McFarlin passed away on January 10, 2023, after a brief illness.
Nancy was born on January 24, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her parents were R. Kenneth and Blanch Myrdith (Craig) Crain. She was raised in Jenks, Oklahoma during her younger years, where her parents owned and operated the Bank of Commerce. She attended schools at Jenks Public Schools, Monte Cassino Catholic School in Tulsa, Holland Hall School, graduating from Tulsa Central High School (Class of 1948). She attended college at The Tulsa University, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and Drury College (Springfield, Missouri).
Nancy married John Thomas “Tom” McFarlin on May 6, 1951, in Cassville, Missouri and were married 57 years. In 1952, they moved from Cassville to Tulsa where Tom joined National Bank of Tulsa, now known as Bank of Oklahoma. In 1956, they moved to Pryor, Oklahoma when Tom went to work for Nancy’s parents, at the American National Bank of Pryor. In 1973, they organized the Lakeside Bank of Salina in Oklahoma. In 1991, they sold the bank and retired, moving to the Yorktown Condominiums in Tulsa, where Nancy remained until her peaceful passing in her home.
Nancy is survived by her son, Stephen Crain McFarlin and wife Julie of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Boese of Tulsa, OK; and son, Craig Thomas McFarlin of Houston, TX. In addition, she is survived by 3 grandchildren: Melanie McFarlin Ashcraft and husband Brett of Richmond, TX, Sean Andrew McFarlin and wife Kora of Suffolk, Virginia and Julia Elizabeth McFarlin Boese of Colorado Springs, CO, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Her hobbies were crappie fishing, gardening, boating/water skiing, going to casinos and traveling to many exciting destinations with her husband and close friends; as well as playing in bridge groups throughout her life, including the Yorktown Condo bridge group and other Tulsa bridge groups. She was competitive and enjoyed coming in high even in her 90s. Nancy also enjoyed watching football games, especially the KC Chiefs. Before the pandemic she enjoyed going to the Tulsa Symphony, Tulsa PAC, movies at Tulsa’s Circle Cinema, and many restaurants with her best girlfriend, Marilyn and others.
I want to thank the staff at The Yorktown Condominiums for not only their service/attention to my mother but their friendship and caring over 31 years. Also, thank you to her private physician for over 30 years, the caretakers who took care of her the last two weeks, and the staff at Miller Hospice who were so professional and caring.
A private family service and inurnment will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Nancy’s favorite charities who she supported over many years: The Salvation Army – Tulsa Chapter, 924 South Hudson Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74112 and The John 3:16 Mission, 506 North Cheyenne Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74103.
