Nancy Louise Thompson's Obituary
Nancy Louise Thompson, age 78, passed away on December 29, 2018 in Tulsa, OK. She was surrounded by family and loved ones when she passed at Clarehouse Hospice Center. Nancy was born in Pawhuska, OK on January 26th, 1940. She grew up in Henryetta, OK where she graduated from high school and met her husband of 43 years, Bill Thompson. During her childhood in Henryetta, Nancy began a friendship with a group of women, affectionately called the Henryetta Hens, that would last her entire life. She then attended the University of Tulsa and obtained B.S. in Physical Education. She and Bill lived in Tulsa where they had four children.Nancy first worked as a school teacher and taught PE on and off for 15 years, taking a break when the children were young. During that time, she worked for Tulsa Public Schools, Sands Springs Public Schools, and Saint Pius Catholic School. She then went to work for the City of Tulsa as a Recreation Leader for the Parks Department. While being employed for City of Tulsa she worked at McClure and Whiteside Recreation Centers. This was the perfect job for Nancy and took advantage of her love of sports, swimming, dance, and crafts. During her time at McClure Park, Nancy created the first youth triathlon in the Tulsa area, and that triathlon continues today, 35 years later. After 20 years with the City of Tulsa she retired and lived out her years in Tulsa.Nancy had many interests and hobbies over the years, and she approached each of these interests with great enthusiasm and devotion. For years, she was an active runner and triathlete and completed several of the Free Wheel bike rides. She loved to garden. And in her retirement, she bought and read many, many cookbooks, even after she no longer cooked. But, Nancy would say that her greatest accomplishment was her family.Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Pauline Anglin and her husband, Bill Thompson. She is survived by her brother, Eddy Anglin of Plano, TX; her children, daughters Marie Pacheco, Molly Caston, Margie Thompson and son, Frank Thompson; her grandchildren Olivia Pacheco, Matthew Pacheco, Finn Thompson, and Riggs Thompson; and her great granddaughter Scarlett Wilkens.Viewing will be held Sunday, January 6th from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the family will greet friends that evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home.Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 7th at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
