Nanette Marie Thompson's Obituary
Nanette Marie (Jones) Thompson, age 74, devoted wife, mother, and nana, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024. Nanette, affectionately known as "Nan" to her family and friends, was born on February 16, 1950, in Buffalo, New York, to John Paul and Hillary Jones. She attended Mount St. Joseph Academy & Canisius University, active in the fields of psychology and musical theatre. Following work as an occupational therapist In Corning, N Y., Nan was selected to tour with the Mental Health Players, a group which used impromptu drama to improve understanding of mental health issues.
Nanette married the love of her life, Les Thompson, on August 8, 1981, in Lombard, Illinois. Within a year, the couple relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she was employed by Reproductive Services and he worked at Niject Services, a partnership of Ingersoll-Rand and Praxair. During Nan's time with Repro, she coordinated a related service, Adoption Affiliates, from which she and her husband were blessed with adopting their beloved daughter, Quinn.
Nan was seldom idle. She loved to entertain her family and friends and was an excellent cook. She and her good friend, Debra Smith, ran a modest catering business, enjoyed by many. Nan assisted Glen Lafarlette’s team with Tulsa Running Club events for several years. She much enjoyed business travel and customer entertainment opportunities, as well as travels to Europe and throughout North America.
After twenty years in the Tulsa area, the family moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where she was employed as a counselor at a memory care facility. In 2008, the couple relocated to Calgary, AB Canada, for a ten-year period of diverse adventures. Most notable was how Nan loved to make desserts for her husband’s business associates and how much they were appreciated. She acquired new friendships and worked to maintain earlier ones. Nan truly never met a stranger. Often, when a friend was going through difficult times, Nan’s empathy skills were quick to assist, helping to comfort them, often for months on end.
In 2018, Nan and the family returned to the Tulsa area, to enjoy retirement near to their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, which was a time she revered. In recent years, while struggling with memory issues, nothing would bring a smile to Nan more than the sights or sounds of her family. Nan touched the lives of many with her vibrant and welcoming personality. She will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Nanette is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Les Thompson, daughter, Quinn Lutz, son-in-law, Daniel Lutz, and grandchildren, Caden and Camryn Lutz.
