Nelda Joy Burnett's Obituary
Nelda Joy Burnett, 88, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026. She was born on March 15, 1938, in Longview, Texas, to Raymond Sim Williams and Mildred Maureen Williams (Wilson).
Nelda was a vibrant, social woman with a natural “in charge” spirit who never met a stranger. She loved being surrounded by people and brought warmth and laughter wherever she went—often sharing her beloved “church joke of the day.” A wonderful cook, she was especially known for her fried chicken, homemade biscuits, and her famous cheese enchiladas, meals that brought family together time and time again.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Nelda was deeply devoted to her church and her church family from the time her children were young until her passing. She found strength and comfort in her favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” She was an active member of her church choir, participated in church exercise classes, and was faithfully involved in Sunday school.
Nelda was immensely proud of her family, especially her sons, never missing a chance to brag on them. She shared a special bond with her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. She could always be found cheering them on at their sporting events, believing they could do no wrong. Her home was a place of love and tradition, especially during the holidays when she hosted her grandchildren for Christmas cookie decorating.
She was also a creative and hardworking woman. Nelda loved painting and was a talented seamstress, often making pajamas and costumes and carefully patching her boys’ jeans when they wore thin. Known affectionately as “Jinx,” a nickname given to her by her father, she carried a spirit of resilience throughout her life.
Nelda was first married to Jimmie Majors, with whom she shared two sons, David Majors and Steve Majors. After his passing at a young age, she demonstrated incredible strength and perseverance while raising their teenage boys. She later found love again and married Troy Alvin Burnett on September 8, 1979.
She also had a special place in her heart for her dogs, especially her beloved Benji.
Nelda will be remembered for her strong faith, her loving and joyful spirit, her devotion to family, and the way she made everyone feel welcome and cared for. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her sons; David Majors (Robin) and Steve Majors (Sheryl), grandchildren; Holly Arnett (Eric), Heidi Spencer (Charlie), Brian Majors (Courtney), Michael Majors (Audra), and Matthew Majors, as well as 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her first husband; Jimmie Majors, and second husband Troy Burnett, sister; Wanda Majors, and her brother Raymond Williams.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Frontier Hospice and Senior Helpers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2nd, from 4-7 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
