Steve entered the Army Air Corp at the age of 18, serving during World War II. He was a navigator/tail gunner on a B-26, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was truly proud to be an American and to serve his country. In 1946, he married Marilyn Jo Prince. He attended Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, graduating in 1949. He began work for Amoco Oil Company in 1950, and was employed there for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed playing golf with his many friends at the Oaks Country Club. One of his most cherished partners was his son, Steve, Jr. He became president of the Oaks in 1999. He enjoyed woodworking, often making mementos for friends and family. His characteristic signature, 'LBL' Love Built In, appeared on all his pieces. Steve followed local, state, and national politics, writing numerous timely editorials to the Tulsa World. He was an avid gardener, supplying many with his homegrown vegetables. He was an active member of the Tulsa Men's Club and a loyal volunteer at Jenks Southeast Elementary School. Thursday's found Steve in the school cafeteria greeting the children and making sure they all had what they needed for lunch. He loved the children, and they loved him.
