Nolan served in the United States Army where he worked at one of the eight Nike Missile Site locations in the Cleveland, Ohio area, mainly in the city of Warrensville, at the USAR Center. While still serving in the Army he was married to Edna Jean Ferrier (nee Dornes) on 11-10-1958. After his honorable discharge he became a hard-working father to support his family of five children. Nolan was a very hard worker and provider and at times worked two or three jobs to make extra money. This money he used to take his family on adventurous journeys exploring many landmarks, historical sites, states and parks across our county. He meticulously planned out the itinerary and timelines to maximize the trips. We all had countless amounts of entertainment that included hiking, camping, and meeting new people while exploring new places. Together they raised a family of five and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sadly, after 30 years of marriage Edna and Nolan ended their marriage in divorce on 7-28-1989.
Nolan had a true passion for sports such as baseball, basketball, and football. In his later years he developed his deep love for God and Christianity.
Nolan was a union member of the UFCW - United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Industry, located in Ohio and worked in maintenance. He fixed manufacturing equipment and when times changed set-up and programmed a system to automate the factory. He had worked his way up to a highly regarded supervisor when he retired.
Nolan and his father spent countless hours collaborating on their European and American Ancestry. He has documented family in the United States of America all the way back to Andrew Ferrier who was a Revolutionary War Soldier, born in 1732. He then took the time to make a personalized ancestry book for all five of his children and gift it to them at Christmas to preserve our genealogy. He will be deeply missed.
His personal note at the end of his ancestry book stated: “Let us not forget the great heritage of freedom, which through much hardship, labor, sacrifice, faith and prayer from all our ancestors, has been passed on to all of us. This should now be one of our most treasured possessions.” - Nolan C. Ferrier
In the beautiful words Nolan spoke he would make sure he ended every phone call with:
“Goodbye for now.”
