Norma Zollars Henderson's Obituary
Norma Zollars Henderson, formerly of Tulsa, passed away on May 25, 2019, in Leawood, Kansas, at age 90.Born on July 28, 1928, and raised on her family’s farm in Harper, Kansas, she earned a Bachelor of Christian Education degree from Phillips University, founded by one of her ancestors, Disciples of Christ preacher and educator Ely Vaughn Zollars. After graduation, she accepted a position at First Christian Church in Griffin, Georgia, where she met her future husband, Hugh Tarpley Henderson; they married on May 13, 1951. The couple moved to Tulsa in 1975 and became active members of First Christian Church, with Norma receiving special recognition for her work as a volunteer receptionist. In 2013, her children established an endowed scholarship at Phillips Theological Seminary in her honor.Norma was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years. Survivors include two sons, Hugh Henderson (Julie) and Ken Henderson (Kathy); one daughter, Gaye Henderson (Jim Dugan); four grandchildren, Collins Henderson Brown (Brad), Christine Henderson Brodnan (Matt), Keith Henderson (Kristen), and Jack Henderson (Blythe); and five great-grandchildren.A graveside service is planned for Thursday, May 30, at 1 pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, OK. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 31, at 2:30 pm at Community Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Norma Zollars Henderson Endowed Scholarship at Phillips Theological Seminary, 901 N.
