My cousin, Gayle Smith, called to tell me that she had seen the notice of Brother Lerch's death in a seminary magazine. We remember him as a great preacher and a friend of the teenagers at Unity Baptist Church located in Attala County, MS. My mom, the church pianist, has just passed away at the age of 99. When I was a young girl of about 15 years old, Brother Lerch came to our church,Unity Baptist , at West, MS. He was our revival preacher on 2 different occasions. We all thought he was great. He was so kind and loving to the church community. We would have our revivals for a week , beginning on the 3rd week in July. Oh, such good food the ladies would serve. We never knew what happened to him until I read it in the Vision magazine from the New Orleans Baptist Seminary today. By the way, I am in my 78th year. Carol & I were so privileged to be members of Pastor Norman Lerch's church in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1965 to 1967 and just loved he and his wife, Doris and his wonderful sons. He and his ministry for Jesus Christ greatly added to our understanding of Scripture and affected our walk with the Lord even to this day. I've known Bro. Lerch since I was 9 years old. I met him in Booneville Arkansas. My daddy served in ministry with him at First Baptist Church. Bro. Lerch baptized me. There aren't many things I remember from so long ago but I vividly remember the night I walked to him in front of the alter at the tent revival meeting to tell him I had asked Jesus to come into my heart.I loved both he and Doris and was so blessed to have been a part of their lives in my adult years in two different local Baptist churches.
