Norval Eugene Gray's Obituary
Norval Eugene Gray, age 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2018. Gene was born April 6, 1929 to Norval Thomas and Lillian (Collins) Gray in Navina, Oklahoma. He graduated from Minneola (KS) High School in 1948, served in the National Guard and US Army during the Korean War 1951-1953, and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Business in 1956, then earned a B.A. in Education from Central State College in Edmond in 1960. He married Dorothy Voth in 1963 while working for Skelly Oil Company in Kansas City. They moved to Tulsa in 1965, where he worked for St. Francis Hospital in the Debt Collection department until he retired in 1993.Gene was charming and funny, and he enjoyed practical jokes. He acted in several plays during college and had a knack for impersonations. He also loved music, taking pride in his superior scores in singing competitions in college, and delighting to sing the great hymns of the Christian faith all the way to the end of his life. He was physically active all his life, lettering in three sports all four years of high school and attending college on a track scholarship. He enjoyed hiking, camping, biking, and canoeing. He and Dorothy traveled extensively and attended OU football games for half a century together.Gene will be remembered as a sweet, gentle, kind, devout Christian. After his conversion to Christianity and his baptism on May 2, 1993, he was comforted and guided by his daily devotional time in the Word of God. He exhorted everyone he loved to follow Jesus with their whole hearts.He will be dearly missed by his sons, Mark Steven Gray and wife Shirley and Michael Eugene Gray and wife Eva; three grandchildren, Miranda Jones and husband David, Stuart Gray, and Hannah Gray; and 13 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of Mark, Margaret Gray; his second wife and mother of Michael, Dorothy Gray; and his brother Richard Gray.Visitation will be held 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM with family present from 2:00 to 4:00, Sunday, January 21, 2018, at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Visitation Suites, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Gene’s funeral service will be held 12:30 PM, Monday, January 22, 2018, at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Billy Graham ministries.
