Oakie Alvira Pearson's Obituary
Oakie Alvira Ray Pearson entered this life on March 15th, , 1936. She was born to Alvin Jesse Ray and Geneva Canter Ray. On September 21, 2017, surrounded by her loving family Oakie went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 81 years, 6months and 6 days. Oakie was born in Lancaster, Kentucky and lived there until 1965 when she moved to Oklahoma. Oakie had a love for music. She played the piano and loved to sing. She began playing the piano in church at a very young 6 years of age. Oakie enjoyed spending time in the kitchen with all of her daughters and granddaughters, and was known for her chicken and dumplings recipe. In 2007, she with her daughters and granddaughter Tammy, opened Back Creek Deli in Broken Arrow. The deli was a hub for friends and family, and Oakie was very proud to share her love of cooking with the community. Aside from cooking, Oakie loved spending time with her family very much. The family regularly gathered for food and game nights that lasted late into the night. Even though Oakie left Kentucky, she instilled a great love for that land in her entire family, and they would all frequently return to her birthplace for family vacations. Oakie is preceded in death by her parents A.J. and Geneva Ray, brother Jesse DeVon Ray, son Michael DeVon Casey, and great granddaughter Sylvia Elizabeth McHenry. Oakie is survived by daughters, Becky Roller and her husband Terry of Haskell, Deanna White of Catoosa, Lisa McHenry and her husband Chris of Owasso, 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Brothers, Darrell Ray and spouse Nga of Tulsa and Bert Ray of Stanford Kentucky. Along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. Pallbearers will beJack Sappington, Jesse Sappington, Mike McHenry, Austin Townsley, Justin Mosier, and Austin Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rodney Rhine, Dillan Sappington, and J.T. Sappington.
