Oleta "Lea" Young's Obituary
Obituary of
Oleta “Lea” Newton Young
Oleta “Lea” Young was born October 15, 1924 and passed away January 13, 2020. She lived the majority of her life in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She passed away in her sleep, at home of natural causes. She was 95 years old.
Mom was born to Joseph and Ida Newton, she had four siblings, Mable, her older sister, Claudia, her younger sister, and two brothers, Joseph and Johnny. She and her siblings walked 5 miles to school (barefoot and uphill both ways) every day. Living on a farm in southwestern Oklahoma did not lend itself to many friends This fostered a family closeness that followed mom for the rest of her life. Lea graduated high school and went on to read every book in the world. Though no collage, she was maybe the smartest women I’ve ever known. Lea married Skip Young on June 21, 1945. He was the love of her life and they were together for over 40 years. Her job was a wife and mother. Her children were her life. She later in life did start a career in banking business and of course excelled. Her hobby was winning every argument she ever had. Her favorite activity was visiting family down home. No one I’ve ever known was as family oriented as mom. Lea was preceded in death by her husband Skip, her daughter Nancy, her parents and all her siblings, her nephew John Brower, her niece Debbie Newton, and others. Every death that proceeded her affected her in profound ways. She is survived by her daughter Susan Alice Young, her son Mark Randall Young, numerous nieces and nephews, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Oleta “Lea” Newton Young memorial service will be held at Floral Haven Rose Chapel in Tulsa Oklahoma on the 20th of February 2020 at 2:00 pm. Reception will follow after service. Internment will be at Spring Hill cemetery in Kiowa county Oklahoma at a date to be announced.
