Patrick Hess' Obituary
Patrick Mathew Hess, 75, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away on April 2, 2025, at his home. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 4, 1950, Patrick was the son of John Hutton Hess and Virginia M. Zabienski. He was raised in the Catholic faith and attended St. Pius and Bishop Kelley High School. He was a man of many passions, and his presence will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Patrick’s educational journey was eclectic, including studies at Northeastern State University and the University of Oklahoma, but his pursuit of culinary excellence was an exceptional time in Pat’s life and made him who he was. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, honing his skills and passion for the art of cooking. His culinary expertise earned him admiration from those who knew him best, as he was known for his ability to create memorable meals and pass on long-held traditions for those he loved the most.
For his working life, Patrick joined his family at American Tank and Construction. Outside of his professional accomplishments, Patrick was an avid poker player, finding joy in the challenge and camaraderie of the game and making plenty of great friends along the way. He also greatly enjoyed golf, both playing and watching the game.
In 1983, Patrick married the love of his life, Mary Jane Smithey, with whom he shared an enduring partnership. Together, they built a loving family. Their son, Garrett Hess, resides in Tulsa with his wife, Chelsea, and their two children, Wyatt and Audrey, were the pride and joy of Patrick’s later years. His legacy of love and humor will continue to live on through them.
Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Mary, who remained by his side throughout their marriage, and his extended family and friends who will forever remember him for his love of family and one-of-a-kind sense of humor, including: his brother Michael and wife Cindy of Tulsa and their children and grandchildren; his sister, Virginia Ann Sample of Tulsa, and her children and grandchildren.
A service will be held for family and friends on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 12:30pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
Patrick brought something irreplaceable to this world. He brought a sharp eye, unmissable taste, and such an ornery sense of humor. His life will forever remain in the hearts of his friends and family, who will cherish the moments, meals and memories they made with him. May he rest now without pain and fully in peace.
