Peggy Sue Foster's Obituary
Peggy Sue Foster passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, the year of our Lord December 21, 2022.
Peggy, a long time Broken Arrow resident, was born in Grandfield, Oklahoma January 4, 1933, to Ned and Jean (Atchley) Sellars. She grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma with her older sister, Billie Jean, after her mother remarried her stepfather, Earnest Roark. She also spent significant time in Grandfield with Grandparents William and Martha Atchley. Upon graduating Duncan High School in 1950, she later married Robert (Toby) Foster in 1952, which union ended upon his death in 2014, after nearly sixty-two years of marriage.
Peggy and Toby had two children, a daughter, LuAnn and son Neal Dean. Peggy and Toby moved to Broken Arrow in 1964, soon purchasing a house and raising the family, the same home in which Peggy remained until her recent illness.
Peggy was a devout follower of Christ and deeply involved with church and school activities as the children grew up, including teaching Sunday school and serving in various capacities within her church for many years. Peggy was a homemaker, providing endless support and encouragement to her children growing up, including PTA, den mother, little league, holding countless sleepovers for her children’s friends, providing seemingly endless transportation to a multitude of events, functions, sporting games and the like. Her home was your home to whomever would show up. Her home was a place the neighborhood kids would often come to play, hang out and enjoy snacks and a cold Coke.
Later, Peggy’s attention was focused primarily on her granddaughter Caroline whom she is celebrating with in heaven, and her grandsons, Isaac and Niles, of whom she was immensely proud.
Peggy was baptized and became a devout follower of Jesus Christ at the age of 12 in Duncan, Oklahoma. Later, she became integral in leading her own children to the faith, both by word and deed. She was selfless, gracious and kind to all with whom she came in contact, and became a dear friend to many. She prayed ceaselessly for others, and one knew they could count on her to “keep them in her prayers.” All her life, she was a voracious reader, but particularly she read and studied Scripture daily and could offer sage advice regarding its contents.
Peggy enjoyed the friendship of many during her life and was never too busy to listen, discuss, or advise. She celebrated with others upon learning of their achievements; consoled and grieved with them during times of despair. She was known for her compassion and gentle spirit. And you could call her any time, anytime at all.
Peggy’s love for her pets, mostly cats, was another hallmark of her life. She fed and cared for a host of cats, dogs, birds squirrels, possums, raccoons and other “critters” during the years that was an extension of her love and compassion for those in need. Animals seemed to sense her kindness and generosity and somehow would “show up” at Peggy’s house.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Jean Roark, sister and brother-in-law Billie and Russell Thomas, granddaughter Caroline Cannon, nephew Jack Thomas and son-in-law Greg Spahn.
She is survived by daughter LuAnn Spahn of Broken Arrow, son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Lisa Foster of Sapulpa, grandson, Isaac Foster and wife Becka Pitts Foster of Tulsa, and grandson, Niles (Pete) Foster of Coralville, Iowa, along with nephews, Jim Thomas, Dennis Thomas and Gary Thomas, their spouses and children along with many nephews, nieces and cousins, and her beloved cat Bo, all of whom she held great affection.
The family expresses gratitude to everyone that have been a blessing and friend to our mother through these past years. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance to Peggy be sent to StreetCats Inc. 6520 E 60th St Tulsa, Ok. 74145
