Penny Louise Sartin Duke's Obituary
Penny Louise Sartin Duke, affectionately known as Penny, passed away on March 10, 2025, at Hillcrest
Medical Center in Tulsa, Ok at the age of 64. Born on December 16, 1960, in Sikeston, Missouri, Penny
lived a life shaped by love, faith, and family.
Penny was the daughter of Merlee Sartin and Alouise Sartin. She was adopted around the age of 10 by
her stepdad David Duke. She grew up alongside her siblings Jackie, Danny, Mark, Gerry and Lisa, each of
them part of her story in their own way. She attended high school in California, where she began forging
her own path before marrying and starting her family in Colorado. She became a devoted mother to
Nikki Duke, Natalie Toogood-Kendrick, and Shala Bluford, the greatest joys of her life. Her legacy
continues through her grandchildren: Grace Kendrick, Katana Adams, Arloe Simmons, Abigail Duke, and
Vivian Kendrick, who will always carry a part of her spirit forward.
Penny’s life was not defined by titles or accolades but by the way she embraced the world around her.
She was very loving of people and welcomed everyone into her family. She was a creator, pouring love
and patience into crocheting, native crafts, and coloring, finding peace in every stitch and stroke. She
was a writer, always with a notepad in hand, feeding her curiosity. And she was a believer; not bound to
one church or doctrine but deeply connected to the presence of God in all its forms. She explored
different Christian denominations with an open heart, cherishing the wisdom and traditions of each.
She faced life’s challenges head-on, never allowing hardship to steal her light. Though her journey
included struggles, she met them with quiet strength and a faith that carried her through. She found
beauty in the little things, comfort in scripture, and joy in simple moments with those she loved.
Penny wouldn’t want a somber farewell. Instead, we invite those who knew her to celebrate her life in a
way that reflects her spirit; with stories, laughter, and a shared appreciation for the faith that guided
her. A memorial gathering will be held to honor her memory, and in keeping with her love of writing,
some of her stories will be shared.
Though Penny’s physical presence is gone, her love, wisdom, and faith live on in the lives she touched.
Her story continues in the hearts of those who carry her with them.
