OUR BROTHERPeter was a kind and gentle man, who had donated a lot of his sick leave to co-workers. He had a soft spot for animals and rescued many. Although he had polio since he was an infant, many surgeries, aches and pains, Peter never complained. He always said,â? There are people, who are off worse than I amâ?! And,â? Itâ??s a good day when I wake up in the morningâ?.He told us he had a wonderful and good life with his wife Norma and stepsons. He had courage in fighting the cancer but also had said,â? It is what it isâ?.We couldnâ??t have asked for a better brother. As children, we were left to our own devices since our mother worked in the evening and had to rest during the day. We played together, he was a brother who cared for his sisters. He used to comb my hair so that we could leave the house early to be off playing.Peterâ??s passion was driving. He used to pick up Doris and her boys just to be driving somewhere. We would drive 100 miles in one direction and then always ended back at Quartz Mountain Lodge. The last few days with him were filled with humor and laughter, even though he was in a lot of pain. Peter lost his battle with cancer but was â??fortunateâ? to be at home surrounded by family and his pets. My sister, Doris, and I loved him a lot and will miss him dearly.Doris Cothren and Ilona Halderman
