Hughes, Philip Bryan's Obituary
Philip Bryan Hughes
November 6, 1951 – March 19, 2026
Philip Bryan Hughes, age 74, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away on March 19, 2026. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Robert Lendon Hughes Sr. and Jessie Dale (Bryan) Hughes.
Philip spent his early childhood in Memphis before moving with his family to Florissant, Missouri, in 1958. He attended Robinwood Elementary School, Florissant Junior High, and Hazelwood East High School. As a young man, he worked shining shoes in a local barbershop and later at Dick Weber Lanes, where he became an accomplished bowler and was even offered the opportunity to tour professionally—a path he chose to decline in favor of staying close to home.
He married and began his career in retail, working as a department manager for K-Mart in Danville, Illinois, and later as a retail marketing manager in Indianapolis, Indiana. His career continued with TG&Y, taking him to Kansas City, Kansas, and eventually to Oklahoma, where he served as an assistant manager. Phil was a truck driver for many years and later became an instructor, and retired as Oklahoma State examiner.
Philip lived a life grounded in faith. Though he never formally entered the ministry, he felt a lifelong calling to preach and remained a devoted Christian. His love for God guided his life and relationships. He also carried a deep sense of loyalty and remembrance, especially for his best friend, Jim Aims, whose loss in the Vietnam War profoundly affected him.
He found joy in simple pleasures—country music, bowling, and cherished childhood memories of Saturday mornings spent watching Westerns like Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, and Gene Autry. Those moments reflected his lifelong appreciation for tradition, storytelling, and family.
Philip is survived by his loving wife, Deanna Hughes, and his daughter, Heather Dehnert and her Husband Justin Dehnert, who will forever cherish his memory. He is also remembered by his brothers extended family, including nieces, cousins, and many loved ones whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous beloved family members.
Though Philip did not serve in the military, he came from a proud lineage of veterans who served their country across multiple generations, a heritage he deeply respected and honored.
