Philip Martin's Obituary
Philip Noel Martin, 94, passed away on July 14, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born December 27, 1924 to Thomas and Jessie Martin in Fairfield, Illinois. Phil was class president during his senior year in high school. He went on to join the army and served in World War II. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a Masters degree in Journalism. During this time he married his sweetheart Marjorie leading to a loving marriage of 67 years. Phil worked as a Seismic Survey Party Chief along the Amazon River Basin, Portugal, Colombia, Brazil, Libya, and Alaska. While in South America their daughter Claudia was born after 17 years of marriage.Phil went on to own and operate Betsy Seisgun Incorporated in Tulsa, Oklahoma until the age of 92. His seismic unit has a small part in the very beginning of the Jurassic Park movie, and he received a thank you letter from Steven Spielberg. Phil was offered Journalism positions with the National Geographic and the Tulsa World. He had numerous poems and opinions published in the Tulsa World as he always loved to write.Phil could speak 7 different languages, played the harmonica, liked to paint and draw, watch birds, and garden.Philip was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom, and wife Marjorie. He is survived by his daughter Claudia Rushing, son in law Stacey Rushing and granddaughters Cassidy and Sara Rushing.Visitation will take place from 3 pm – 7 pm on Sunday, July 21 at Floral Haven Funeral Home.Services will be at 10 am on Monday, July 22 at Heritage United Methodist Church- 5300 E. Kenosha Street in Broken Arrow, OK.
