Phillip Ray Shoemake's Obituary
Our beloved father, Phillip Ray Shoemake, aged 82, passed away in the afternoon on Thursday, December 14, 2017.Dad had a severe stroke in March of this year. Although Dad’s health had declined, his spirit did not.Some of you knew Dad as Phil, some knew him as “Shoe”, and a few knew him as “Corky”. No matter what name he went by, you knew he had a contagious smile and a great sense of humor. Not only was he a proud family man, he loved to talk to people and share his stories. Everyone we know has many favorite stories of our father and they love to share the memories every time we get together. We would love to hear your contributions of any memories of our father you wish to share as well.Dad was born in Porum, Oklahoma and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma shortly after graduating high school. While most of his years were spent in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he briefly lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and several years in Omaha, Nebraska.Dad had many occupations over the years, but found his true calling later in life as an Insurance Broker. Previously, he was a salesman for a variety of large corporations, including Seagram’s and Liggett & Myers, as well as being a small business owner in various business ventures.Dad loved to travel and see the world. One of his greatest adventures was in the early 2000’s when he backpacked across many countries in Central and South America. Not only did he return with great stories and photos, he had many fond memories of that trip. The adventures of his trip were published in a local periodical.Phil will be dearly missed by his children: Phyllis Shoemake Moore, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sandra Shoemake Donahue and husband Brian, St. Louis, Missouri, and Derrick Shoemake and Courtney Moore, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his significant other: Elaine Kaslon; grandchildren: Kenny, Courtney, Brandon, Brady, and Audrey; great-grandchildren: Katie, Danielle, Herbie, Serenity, Greysopn, Novah, and Willow; brother: Gary Shoemake and wife Lisa of Tennesee; and sister: Glenda Ferenbach of Florida.Phil is preceded in death by his parents; brother: Ray Shoemake; and the mother of his children: Jane Shoemake.A Celebration of Life will be held at Floral Haven Family Center on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 between 10:00am and 12:00pm. Floral Haven Family Center is located next to the Floral Haven Funeral Home at 6500 South 129th East Avenue, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
