Phyllis Mary Hardmeyer's Obituary
Phyllis Mary Hardmeyer, 96, passed from this life on March 9, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born in Castleford Yorkshire, England on June 6, 1914 to Elvin Walker and Mary Pickering Walker. In 1919 Phyllis moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia due to the Halifax Explosion that occured on Thursday, December 6, 1917. Halifax, Nova Scotia was devastated by a huge detonation of the SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship that was loaded with wartime explosives when it collided with the Belgian SS Imo in the harbour. Her father moved his family there to help rebuild after the devastation. She moved to New York on July 5, 1923 and on August 18, 1942 she became a U.S. Citizen. From 1946 to 1948 Phyllis lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil until leaving Brazil and returning to New York April 8, 1948. She later moved again when her husband, Edgar “Stuart” Hardmeyer, was transferred to Tulsa to work for American Airlines. Stuart worked for American from 1940-1981. She is preceded in death by her loving husband; parents; and four brothers. She is survived by her sons, Richard “Rick” Stuart Hardmeyer and wife, Becky and Russell Lee Hardmeyer; two grandchildren, Chris Velasco and wife, Thea and Jamie Martin and husband, Eric; four great grandchildren, Nathan and Elizabeth Velasco and Jordyn Sikes and Zeke Duffey.
