Ralph Daugherty's Obituary
Born July 10, 1932 In Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Albert Daugherty and Eula Mae Humphrey. Ralph Daugherty passed peacefully on February 26, 2024 while surrounded by his family.
His mother moved to Tulsa where he attended school and graduated from Daniel Webster High School in 1951.
In the spring of 1952, he met Marion Van Atten at the Cove Confectionary in Red Fork, Oklahoma. The following year he was drafted into the United States Army. Shortly after, he was stationed in Korea, during the Korean War. He would then marry Marion after returning home from the war in September of 1954. And married 69 years. During their marriage they had three children, Janice, Gary and Jacki.
While raising their children, Ralph began his career in the petroleum industry with Skelly, Getty and retired from Texaco. Ralph loved all things sports. He coached Little League baseball from 1963-1972. Ralph was an avid Chicago Cubs, Dallas Cowboys and University of Oklahoma fan. He loved spending time on the water while fishing and gathering up his fish stories to take back home.
Throughout his life he loved having his family over for holidays, cookouts and summer afternoons at his pool. His family brought him the most joy. He loved to joke and tell his family that he'd take them on vacation to Keifer to "watch the tide roll in". He enjoyed days spent at his favorite swimming hole Baron Fork along the Illinois River. He loved the tropics and was able to take his entire family to Hawaii in 2012. He and his family's memories from that trip will be cherished for a lifetime. He was honored in 2015 (with his grandson Zackary by his side) with an Oklahoma Honor Flight visit to Washington DC. Ralph was secretly a movie star with his 1 line " You'll be sorry" in the 1952 movie Take The High Ground. Ralph never met a stranger. Though impatient with some things, he would often leave his family waiting after sparking up a conversation with a random stranger. He was a people watching professional. Ralph really enjoyed his monthly lunches with his wife, Marion's Webster classmates at Coney Islander.
Ralph was a member of the Cherokee Nation Tribe. He was a follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of Asbury Church.
