Ralph "Danny" Gillean's Obituary
Ralph Daniel Gillean Sr., also known as Danny, a devoted husband, father, and man of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 82.
Born on February 1, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, to Royal Garriett Gillean and Mattie Viola Gillean (Pickett), Danny lived a full and vibrant life rooted in family, faith, and adventure. On February 2, 1963, he married the love of his life, Louise Gillean (Glasco), at View Acres Baptist Church. Their union was a beautiful testament to enduring love and shared joy, filled with laughter, deep friendship, and countless shared adventures—including horseback rides through Chandler Park during their courtship.
Danny was a man of many talents and passions. He was an ordained minister and a dedicated youth pastor at two churches throughout his life, leading by example and living as a strong Christian role model. His deep commitment to faith was matched by his service to others, including volunteering with the Berryhill Fire Department and flying missionaries to Mexico.
A licensed pilot with a true passion for flying, Danny found joy flying the plane he owned. Whether soaring above the clouds or sharing the thrill of flight with others, aviation was one of the many ways he expressed his adventurous spirit. He also embraced countless hobbies—scuba diving and more—living with a curiosity and enthusiasm that inspired those around him.
Danny loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. From the time he was a young boy, he had a special fondness for quail hunting, often accompanied by his loyal dogs. He cherished time spent in nature and passed on that appreciation to those he loved. He also enjoyed travel, whether on a cruise or a trip to Mexico, always eager to explore and create memories.
Those who knew Danny will remember his sharp wit and warm sense of humor—he loved to tease and always brought a smile to those around him. But above all, he was a family man: devoted, present, and loving. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Louise Gillean; his son, Ralph Gillean Jr; and his daughter, Cathy Mathews, as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him.
A service to celebrate Danny’s life will be held on Thursday, May 8th at 2:00 p.m. at the Floral Haven Rose Chapel.
