Having lost his mother when he was barely in his teens, Ray lived with and was raised by each of his sisters and some of the brothers. He learned about love, life and honor along with hard work and those were principles he lived by for the rest of his life. He remained close to his surviving siblings, Ada Keys and Harley Matlock.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Sharon of the home, daughters Judy Dunkin and Melanie Matlock. Grandchildren Thomas McKinney, Justin Hurst, Candice Haney, Anthony Douglas, Misty O’Brien, Tyler and Caleb Asher. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ray had an avid interest in photography and loved watching college sports on television and in person. He also liked to travel but health problems limited his ability to do that the last years of his life.
Ray was a lifelong roofer, at one time owning his own company in Borger, Tx. He and first wife Frieda ‘Pat’ Maxwell also owned and operated the local A&W Drive-in Restaurant. After working for many local Tulsa roofing companies, he ended his career with Mott Roofing in Tulsa, making many life-long friends in his years there. He was also a proud union member. He served as an instructor for new roofers hired on at Mott on behalf of the union, as well.
Ray had a quiet sense of humor and a ready smile. He made friends easily and maintained relationships well. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
