Raymond Lee Jetton's Obituary
Raymond L. Jetton, 83, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Webbers Falls, OK, July 31, 1923, Ray was a member of the graduating class of 1941. Ray was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army Air Corps as a flight engineer on a B-17 bomber. Ray and crew were shot down over Poland, and were listed as MIA for an extended time while being held captive by Russian soldiers. Ray retired from SW Bell and ATT after 37 years and filled his time with being a dedicated Akdar Shriner, taking pride in transporting burn victims and their families to Shriner hospitals around the country, and participating yearly in the Akdar Shrine Circus, all this because his love for children and the satisfaction and reward it brought to him. He was a meal on wheels volunteer on the southside of Tulsa for several years. He was also an active member of the 8th Air Force, an avid supporter of T.U. football, enjoying all home games, and several bowl games with his “best pal” Harry Potts. Proceeded in death by parents, Jesse L. and Arvie I. Jetton, sister and brothers, Beulah Mayes, Campbell and Jim Jetton, and most recently son, Don. Ray’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff at Heartland Hospice! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Akdar Shriners, or Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church, where he was a long-time active member.
