Raymond Floyd Vogt's Obituary
Raymond Floyd Vogt, 94, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Baptist Village Evergreen in Owasso, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Clara (Funk) Vogt, his three sons, Deon and wife Margie of Reedley, CA, Arlie of Tulsa, OK, Gary and wife Sandra of Littleton, CO. Four granddaughters, Alison Sparks and husband Ben, of Grand Prairie, TX, Tiffany Ribera and husband Michael, of Lyons, OR, Rachel Gallagher and husband Jeremiah of Oklahoma City, OK, Brianne Vogt, of Fresno, CA, 12 great grandchildren, one sister Dorothy Heidebrecht, of Philomath, OR, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Born February 2nd, 1923 in Corn, OK, the son of Barney and Anna (Flaming) Vogt, he was a longtime resident of Tulsa, OK. Ray was the oldest of 4 children and helped his father farm in Corn, OK, and Premont, TX. After graduating from Corn Bible Academy, Ray served his country as an Army Medic, participating in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. He met his future wife, Clara, while attending Corn Bible Academy. They were married after his return from the war, August 17, 1945 in Premont, TX, where Ray returned to dairy farming with his father. With the goal of entering into ministry, Ray left the farm and Premont, TX, in 1947 and enrolled at Tabor College, in Hillsboro, KS. Deon, the first of their three sons, was born November 23, 1948. Arlie followed 17 months later, April 25, 1950. Ray graduated from Tabor College in May 1951. After graduation, Ray started his career of serving others, teaching at Beverly Elementary School, Beverly, KS, Post Oak Mission School, Indiahoma, OK, El Faro School, Sullivan City, TX, and Inola High School, Inola, OK. In 1957 Ray moved his family to Tulsa, OK. June 20, 1957, after starting Parkside Mennonite Brethren Church, his third son, Gary, was born. Also included in his career of ministry were pastorates at Marion Mennonite Brethren Church, Marion, KS, and New Life Fellowship in Jesus, Tulsa, OK. Ray also worked at house remodeling and construction. He finished his working days at Goodwill Industries as their Maintenance Supervisor. In retirement, Ray spent time caregiving for Clara, his love of 72 years, as well as attending Sheridan Christian Center, gardening, being the “go to” guy to fix anything, and spending time with his granddaughters. After moving into a retirement community, he continued his love of ministry, leading bible studies and times of praise and worship. Ray was proceeded in death by his mother, Anna, November 4, 1978, his father, Barney, January 23, 1993, as well as his younger siblings, brother Leroy, August 13, 2005 and sister, Eleanor Petker, January 28, 2011Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, December 8th, Floral Haven Funeral Home.Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 9th, Floral Haven Rose Chapel.
