Rebecca Jane Carter's Obituary
OBITUARY FOR REBECCA JANE CARTEROn July 19, 2016, I received my best and final promotion, and last relocation to be with my Heavenly Father. I started my life on September 3, 1950, in Bartlesville, OK. Within a few weeks, my mom, dad, and older sister moved to Montana, North or South Dakota (don’t remember which one), and on to New Mexico, finally settling in Ponca City a year and a half later, just in time for my baby sister to greet the world. I attended Ponca City schools, graduating in 1968 from Po-Hi.After attending OSU for a year, majoring in football players and card games, my dad thought it was about time I got a job. Thus began my career in Ponca City with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, now AT&T. After a few years I was moved to Tulsa, then to Oklahoma City. A year later, I was promoted and moved to headquarters in St. Louis, MO, where I happily managed to stay for a number of years. Loved St. Louis. In the early 1990’s, the company made the decision to move its headquarters to San Antonio, TX. Once again I packed my bags and moved to San Antonio. But, that was not to be a long-term situation. Shortly after I moved into my new home, I was transferred back to St. Louis. But that was not enough; a little over a year later, my department was outsourced and I was busy packing my bags again. I decided it was time to come “home” and I moved back to Oklahoma City. I retired about four years later, along with all but one of the managers in my office. What a sweet deal!I remained in Oklahoma City for several years and worked for my dentist, Dr. Jeffery Hermen, subsequently moving to Tulsa and going to work for Dr. Robert Herman, an orthodontist. Confusing! Along with working, I enjoyed quilting, sewing, cross-stitch, and baking. Can never have too many cookies around! Also, I dearly loved my dogs and cats.I am predeceased by my parents, George and Mary Carter, sister Mary Carter Sinex, and two nephews, Blake and Scott Bales. I am survived by my crazy, hilarious, and much loved sister, Stephanie Ward and husband Leroy of Ponca City, OK; my wise, fun-loving, and much loved brother, John Carter and wife Donna of Covington, LA ; my kind, caring, and much loved brother-in-law Bradford Sinex and wife Nancy of Colleyville, TX; my aunt Sandra Stevens of Mission Viejo, CA; and Crystal (Aunt Sue) and Stanley (Uncle Stan) Vanscoyoc of Tulsa, OK. I also have 11 nieces and nephews, and even more great nieces and nephews along with many, many cousins. Pretty big family.Another part of my family is my very dear and much loved friends. They include Gary and Barbara Leidwanger, San Antonio, TX; Jennifer Boyett, Wichita, KS; Pam and Dan Cribbs, Piedmont, OK; Donna Faught, Edmond, OK; Mary Anderson, Crossett, AR; Cindy Watson, Oklahoma City, OK; Lana Jacobsmeyer, O’Fallon, MO; and Christine and Ron White, Florissant, MO. Another special person in my life was Dr. Neil Brickle. We were fortunate enough to spend about 12 wonderful years together. We took numerous trips within the United States and even took an awesome trip to Ireland. Neil was kind and gentle, and had a marvelous dry sense of humor, and was a very generous person. We had so much fun!A special thanks goes out to all of my doctors for providing the best care I could possibly receive: primarily Dr. Scott Asakevich, Warren Clinic; Dr. Steve Sanders, Warren Clinic; Dr Miland Javle, MD Anderson; Dr. Roger Siemens, Surgical Associates; Dr. Michael Martin, Gastroenterology Specialists; and Dr. John Maple, OU Health Science Center. Also thanks to a number of other doctors and their staffs involved in my care. As one doctor put it, I have really pushed the limits on this disease! I pushed as long and as far as I could.Another special thank you to Aunt Sue and Uncle Stan, who took such great care of me. They were always there for doctor’s appointments, whether in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, or Houston. I know I couldn’t have done it without them!In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:Ranch Acres Baptist Church, 3143 S. Jamestown, Tulsa, OK 74135MD Anderson, P.O.
