Reta S. Peterson's Obituary
PETERSON, Reta S., 84, a resident of Tulsa, OK passed from this life in the arms of her Lord on Friday, June 6, 2008. Reta was born to Landon and Evelyn Son on October 3, 1923, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She proudly served as a member of the Women’s Army Corp from 1942 to 1948. She was stationed first at Camp White, Oregon, where she met her future husband, Gustav F. Peterson, in 1944. That same year, Reta was assigned to the European Theater of Operations, where she served two tours, the first in France and the second in Germany. Reta was among those who celebrated V-E day in Paris on May 8, 1945. Upon return to civilian life, Reta attended the University of Colorado, where she received her degree in Sociology in 1951. On August 29, 1954 ten years, many letters and three dates after they met Reta and Gustav married in Evanston, Illinois. Reta worked as a secretary and a teacher while raising their two daughters, Carol and Laura, in the Chicago area. She moved back to Oklahoma in 1979, following the death of her husband. She retired from Amoco in 1989, where she had worked as a secretary for ten years. Reta will be remembered for her strength and determination, her independent spirit and exuberance for life and learning. She taught her children to live, learn and laugh often. She was a great mom. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Hilborn; daughter, Laura McPartland; grandchildren, Peter and Kristin Hilborn, and Patrick McPartland; cousin, Judy Reeder; and a host of family and life-long friends. Reta was preceded in death by her husband, Gustav F. Peterson. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Bixby, OK, or your favorite charity.Survived By:
