Rhonda Kaye Spilman's Obituary
Rhonda Kaye (Latta) Spilman was surrounded by her most immediate family who sang her into heaven as she passed away peacefully in her home on June 6th, 2025.
She was born to Ernest and Pauline Latta December 15th, 1949, and was the sister of two ornery brothers, Lael and Daryl. July 25th of 1975, she married the love of her life, Richard Spilman, with whom she spent just shy of 50 wonderful years of marriage. They were best friends and did everything together, including ministry. Their ministry took on many facets from running the canteen or kitchen at camp, Directing and leading those same camps, teaching Sunday school classes at CrossPoint, to decorating beautiful events for brides or fancy functions.
Richard and Rhonda had two daughters; Jacy and Lealyn. During their formative years, Rhonda was a stay-at-home mom and housemaker. Eventually, she decided she wanted to go to work outside of the home, and the floral industry was where she landed. This led to a lifelong love of decorating for weddings and other casual to fancy events. Later, Rhonda was also inspired to become a substitute teacher and eventually a paraprofessional with special needs children in Owasso Schools where she was able to, once again, work alongside her husband. While working with students, she realized how important it was for them to have the proper materials for learning. This led to her and Richard making many a trip to shop back-to-school specials and acquire an abundance of school supplies, but NEVER at full price. If any children needed any sort of supplies, she would say “Just go in there to the back closet and pull out one of the tubs!”
Being a Nana to her grandbabies was the highlight of her life. Rhonda was blessed with five amazing grandkids: Brandon, Coby, Liberty, Emmalyn and Cambree. Each grandkid would have piles and piles of gifts at Christmas, eventually to the point that each one had their own assigned and decorated tree with gifts below. When each of the boys brought home girlfriends that they had decided they wanted to marry, she embraced Harley and Emily and went directly to wedding planning for them.
Rhonda’s faith was unwavering. When she was a little girl, she would sing along with the class at church when they would sing “Into my heart. Into my heart. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus!” She would later recall that, one Sunday, it just meant a little more when she sang than it had the times before. She loved God with all her heart, and this lifelong choice to trust in Him is what made her faith such an inspiration throughout her battle with cancer. Every day she chose to trust God with her body, and every evening, she and whatever family were around, would read a collection of scriptures that spoke directly to building faith in spite of the illness she battled. Her trust in God was present and palpable even until the last breath that she took. She truly lived out Psalms 118:17 “I shall not die, but live and declare the works of God!”
Rhonda is survived by her husband, Richard “Grumpy” Spilman; daughter Jacynth Magallanes and husband Robert; Daughter Lealyn Hall and husband Jeremiah; Grandson Brandon Spilman and wife Harley; Grandson Coby Sinclair and wife Emily; Grandaughters Liberty, Emmalyn and Cambree. She is also survived by a number of other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Pauline Latta, brother Lael Latta, Brother Daryl Latta.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am, July 12 at CrossPoint Church in Sand Springs, OK. In lieu of flowers, Rhonda’s wishes were for us to collect school supplies for children in need, or the giving of donations to missionaries at home and abroad.
