Richard "Don" Carpenter's Obituary
Richard Donald “Don” Carpenter was born April 16, 1930 in Kansas City Missouri to Cloves and Robert Edwin Carpenter. The family moved many times, with Don growing up in Muskogee, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Don attended Rogers High School in Tulsa and graduated from Capital Hill High School in Oklahoma City in 1948. Don was drafted by the US Army during the Korean War, and served for G2 intelligence in Washington DC. Don attended Oklahoma City University from 1954 through 1961. Don was employed as a Mechanical/Electrical Design Draftsman throughout his career primarily with the Kerr McGee corporation. Don was active in Southern Hills United Methodist Church for almost 50 years, and served as Sunday school president for over 20 years….which he described as a role that no one else wanted. Don was also an “old car nut” and avid participant in the early ford V8 club. He enjoyed collecting both cars and watches. He viewed the Hemmings Motor news as the second most important book ever published.Don is survived by his wife Jean of 68 years, children, Brian Carpenter and spouse Marissa, Julie McArthur and spouse Steve, Amy Shulman and spouse Lowell, grandchildren: Justin Carpenter and spouse Katie, Alexis Ussery, Denise McArthur, Spencer McArthur, Anna Trosper and spouse Ben, Maxwell Shulman and Oliver Shulman, and great grand daughter Eleanor Jean Carpenter, great grandsons Cade and Hudson McArthur. Don’s younger brother Gene Carpenter and spouse Judy.Don was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Cloves Carpenter, and his oldest Brother, Jim Carpenter.In lieu of flowers: donations can be made to the United Methodist Church Circle of Care for children and youth. www.circleofcare.orgFuneral Services will be held in Don’s honor at 11 am on Tuesday, February 19 at Southern Hills United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.
