Richard Lee Dawson's Obituary
Richard Dawson, 78, left this world on May 19th, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born on January 16th, 1948, in Tulare, California, the son of Leroy Dawson and Wynona Beeler. He grew up living in many different cities with his siblings: Kathy, JoAnn, Bonnie, Sherrie, Ronnie, Lonnie, Sharon, Roger, and Russell. He later joined the United States Navy, where he served for 4 years and met his future wife, Janis Gailey. They were married on April 2nd, 1970, in Benton, Arkansas.
They had two sons, Leon and Michael, to whom he was a loving, devoted father. He cherished time with his family, and his presence brought laughter and warmth to those around him.
Richard had many passions in life, including ministering, in which he took short-term mission trips to Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, and other small countries. He was known for his sense of humor, and his singing could light up any room.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janis Dawson, his children Leon and Michael Dawson, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five of his siblings, as well as many nieces, nephews, two daughters-in-law, and friends who will all miss him dearly.
A funeral service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on May 26th at 3 pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74012. Friends and family members are also invited to a visitation (10 am) before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Victory Christian Church of Tulsa in support of its ministries in Richard’s name. His final resting place will be at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
