Lit a candle in memory of Richard Eddy
Coach Richard Eddy was not only a teacher and a coach to me he was a mentor and a father figure. Coach Eddy helped mold me into the man I am today. Prayers Up to the family.Cecil Leroy & Marilyn Bullock VHS Class of 67
Coach Richard Eddy as a coach and teacher at VHS in Vinita Okla. in the early to mid 60's was a man whom was fair and straight with "ALL" his students regardless of ethnicity. Even at the risk, I dare say of his own career. A man whom I have the utmost admiration respect. May God continue to bless his family and all who are dear to him at this time of bereavement.Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Rattlesnake Mt. and Punkin' Ridge is where Laura Faye & Richard shared their JOY with me, my children, and grandchildren…PRICELESS! Such generosity and goodwill I have never before experienced. RR, you have given Coach every best consideration Life can offer….YOUR ALL. What grand memories the three of us will carry into Eternity.
My name is Ray Goldsby and Coach Eddy and I coached the OIL Bowl together in 1983. I learned a lot from Coach Eddy in that short period of time. He not only was a great coach but a great man. The players we had for Oklahoma in that Oil Bowl fell in love with him not just for his knowledge of the game but how he built relationships with each member of that team. You knew he did the same with his players at Tulsa Memorial. He continued to be a great friend from that time on. My thoughts and prayers are the family. Just always remember the great times you all experienced together.
Coach Eddy taught me to drive in 1970 and I am sure there are a lot of folks who would like to have a word with him about my driving now. Haha He was very patient and before entering the car he always put an L on my left hand and an R on my right hand, because I always turned the opposite direction he told me. Reading some of these other memories, I am sure I wasn't his only "Yank his hair out" student. I was also his student aide a year later, and I so remember him being jolly, and his smile was warm and inviting. I really don't think he knew a stranger. I know he was a favorite of all the kids including me. Rest in Peace, Coach. I am proud that our paths crossed and your teaching and coaching influenced a whole lot of students and athletes to this day. Many thoughts and prayers to his family, there is now a pretty big hole where a huge and giving heart used to be.
Coach Eddy was my driver's ed teacher the fall of 1967 at Vinita HS. His classroom style was always fun, but his teaching style was serious. I want to think Coach was instrumental in teaching me good driving habits, since I have never received a ticket! Coach was always in a good mood, full of quick wit and always ready to tease in a lighthearted way. Needless to say he elevated all our lives and my high school years with his style of "Friday Night Lights" out on the field of Memorial Stadium. Coach Eddy you left a big impression! Coach may you rest in peace, and may God uplift your family, console their hearts, and surround them with His Love. With my deepest sympathy.
I am honored to have been Coaches Eddy's and Blevin's starting senior quarterback on the 1965-1966 football Hornets when VHS had it's first winning season, it's first conference co-championship, and it's first win over the Miami Wardogs (including Steve Owens, OU's future Heisman Trophy running back) in many, many years. Coach Eddy re-started a great era of football success for Vinita High School. He was a great mentor, leader, and friend. I think of coach Eddy and coach Blevins many times over the past 40 years for what our team accomplished that season. I particularly appreciate the confidence they had in me after my recovering from a series of injuries during my sophomore and junior seasons to play a healthy, entire senior year. Thanks for the wonderful memories and thanks for how you both made me a better and stronger person to face the future. All blessings to your families, friends, and admiring former student-athletes.Pat Barnes VHS '66
Our thoughts and prayers are with Coach Eddy's family. There's not a price that could be put on the leadership and influence he and Coach Blevins provided us at Vinita High School. He loved us and we loved him. Coach Eddy and Coach Blevins have returned several times to our reunions, and it was a blessing to be able to visit with them many times throughout the past years. God blessed us with a true "teacher", whether it was in the classroom, on the field or as a wonderful example of what dedicating your life to your dreams and goals should look like. Thank you, Coach and Laura; we'll love you forever! Peggy Clanton McGehee Class of 66'
My precious Uncle Richard was one-of-a-kind and I will miss him so much. He taught me many valuable lessons and supplied a source of steadiness and love and laughter throughout my life. Holding everyone in the family close to my heart at this difficult time. I know he's dancing now. All kinds of love, Kelley Eddy Tobin
