Robert F. Bewley's Obituary
Our father, Robert F. Bewley, a resident of Tulsa, passed away June 21, 2018 at the age of 83. He was born December 14, 1934 to Robert F. Bewley, Sr. and Grace L. Bewley in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Just after completing his training, prior to his deployment, the ceasefire was signed. This prompted dad to joke that they heard he was on his way, so they decided to call it quits. He married his first love, Dorothy, in 1952. They had two children while in the service (Bob and Teri), then two more while he worked for American Airlines (Richard and Leigh). A New Yorker, Dad moved the family in the “Great Yankee Migration” of 1961 when AA moved their maintenance base to Tulsa. A ticket agent at New York LaGuardia before Tulsa International, he met many celebrities, from Admiral Rickover to Marilyn Monroe. After being instrumental in the creation of a program to convert manual records to a digital system at American Airlines headquarters in Dallas/Ft.Worth, Dad retired from American Airlines in 1992 as supervisor of M.O.C. Tulsa. A great bowler, with the AA “Peppy Pioneers”, he bowled his first of three 300 games at age 67. This is remarkable as only 1/2 of 1% of bowlers ever throw a 300 game. He was an avid sports fan and saw Jackie Robinson play his rookie year at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York. A loyal friend who never came empty handed to a gathering, his bourbon cherries will be missed by all. Dad’s wit educated us, and his stories will be remembered and retold by his children, grandchildren; Reagan, Cristi, Jordan, Sara, Sydney, Miles, and Cole, and great-grandchildren; Tate, Colby, Heath, and Judson. The 10am service will be followed by a celebration at Floral Haven including refreshments in the Family Center, so please stay and share your memories of our Dad, Daddy’O, Pop-Pop, G-Pa, and Friend Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Arden Autry will officiate.
