Robert Earl Brooks' Obituary
Robert Earl Brooks, 92, retired Southern Baptist minister, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Feb. 2, 2018 at the Broken Arrow Nursing Home.He was born April 22, 1925 in Oklahoma City, OK to Fowler Fisher and Hazel Frances (Peck) Brooks. Robert served in the U. S. Marine Corps as communications sergeant during WWII, including the battle of Iwo Jima. While a student at Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee OK, he met the love of his life, Nancye Faye Willis. They married Nov 3, 1950, and after his graduation, moved to Fort Worth TX where he continued his education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. They doubled the size of their family with the birth of twin daughters on Jan 7, 1952. He was an ordained minister and served in Youth, Music, and Education in churches throughout Texas and Oklahoma.Upon his retirement from full-time ministry in 2000, he and Nancye moved to Broken Arrow to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. They joined First Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, where he continued in many volunteer areas of ministry. He was active in the ministries of the OASIS Sunday School class including leading music on Sunday mornings, men’s prayer breakfast, Grief Share, sang in the Joy Singers senior adult choir, coordinated senior adult trips, and assisted in the evening service at the Baptist Village, Broken Arrow.Robert is survived by twin daughters, Pamela Mae Reagan (Bixby) and Peggy Faye Shepherd (Broken Arrow); 6 grandchildren: Daniel Shepherd (wife Stephenie), Andrew Shepherd (wife Brandi), Nathan Reagan (wife Amanda), Emily McMath (husband Chad), Timothy Shepherd (wife Ali), and Ashley Reagan; 13 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Brooks, sister Doris Chandler, his loving wife and helpmate Nancye Faye (Willis) Brooks, and grandson Robert Lawrence, as well as several nieces and nephews.Robert loved gardening, ice cream, telling funny stories, planning trips with his wife for church groups, singing hymns, reading his Bible, spending time with his family, and offering a helping hand or word of encouragement to others. He loved to cook, and was especially known for his perfected cornbread, mouthwatering turkey and dressing, and breads and relishes which were made from his homegrown zucchini and generously shared with friends and neighbors. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior. When asked to describe him in one word, family members and friends often chose the word “integrity”.A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, 100 W Albany St, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.Interment will be immediately following the service at the Veterans Field of Honor Phase II, Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, 6500 S. 129th E Avenue, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.Memorial Contributions can be made to the “Robert E and Nancye F Brooks Memorial Scholarship Fund” on-line by going to okbu.edu/giving.
